Kappa Alpha Theta

September 19, 2024, at 4:30pm            I dropped off my roommate at the Kappa Alpha Theta house, which is the sorority that she is involved in, here at OSU. As she got out of the car, I started to notice the things that stood out to me on this side of Greek Neighborhood. There were cars parked all along the one-way street in front of me. Every model car imaginable with the Greek letters KD on the top of their back windows. With a sign at the end of the street labeled Kappa Delta parking. The Kappa Delta sorority house was just behind, on the right-hand side of the Theta house. Right next to the Kappa Sigma fraternity.             There were girls coming out of all houses and having conversations as if nothing else existed in their little bubble of Greek Neighborhood. The sky was gloomy and gray with signs of a storm coming in. Lighting struck as I drove through the jagged, undone, narrow road...

Greek Life Game-days

September 21, 2024, at 11:30 am            Saturdays are game days in Stillwater, Oklahoma, and every other college town around the nation. On this particular game day, I got to witness how Greek life does their thing. I went with my roommate to the Theta house once again, but this time it was a whole new picture. All the sororities take pictures outside their house on game days, they all stand outside the big, intimidating doors taking cute pictures with their “sisters.” All of them wearing game day pins that have sayings like “Thetas Love Cowboys.” Accompanied with cute orange and black backdrops to liven up their Instagram worthy photos.             I mentioned that each of the houses have their own special details that makes them stand out from the rest. The Theta house has a diamond paved in the concrete that no nonmember can walk across. As my roommate walked up to the house I noticed as she walk...

Building New Beginnings

September 22, 2024, at 10:30am Today is Sunday, which is usually noticeably quiet around the small town of Stillwater. I saw girls walking in cute sundresses with tote bags on their arms, getting into their cars. I assumed that they were headed to church. There was a big gap between the Sigma Nu fraternity and Lambda Chi fraternity houses. Which is right along the street across from Theta Pond. In this gap there were construction vehicles and a giant, dirt crater in the ground all fenced off from the public. Pinned on the front side corner of the fence was a poster with a big picture of a house. It looked just like most of the other sorority houses, but more updated. On the bottom of the poster, it read “Zeta Tau Alpha house coming soon Fall of 2026.” This meant that for the time being the sisters of Zeta did not have house to meet in. So, they would have to do their duties in the Wes Watkins building down the street. I did some research and discovered that many of the houses do these...

Years of Traditions

September 25, 2024, at 9:00pm I was driving around late at night to get a new perspective of Greek neighborhood. Just when I thought I could not discover anything new about these houses, I was quickly proven wrong. Outside every fraternity there were all these boys gathered welding together metal structures. All of them with tools in their hands and what looked like big stage lights shining down on them while they worked. With a little sign on the corner of the lawn that read, “don’t look at the metal structure.” Each of them looked like they were having a fun time while doing such a big job. These structures support and help display the pomping artworks that are used for the week of Homecoming here at Oklahoma State which is “Americans Greatest!” they say. During this process all the fraternities and sororities pair up and work on these artworks up until Homecoming. Each year we have a theme, and the pictures created from the pomping portray something related to that theme. Non...

Theta Pond

September 26 th , 2024, at 4:30 pm               Today was my last day of seeing all the activities that go on in Greek Neighborhood. I wanted to focus on the pond that sits across from Greek Neighborhood; so beautiful, elegant, and still. A place that all students use to escape from the chaos of their lives. Geese swimming and squirrels getting abnormally close to you as you sit on the benches that are perfectly placed around it. The fountains in the middle spitting out sprinkles of water repeatedly. Mimicking the sounds of rain drops.             Theta Pond is named after the sorority Kappa Alpha Theta. There is no specific reason it was named after this sorority, but they have made it apart of their legacy. It has seen just as many happy memories as the houses that sit on Greek Row. Everything from Bid Day events, to Big-Little, to getting pinned as a new member of Kappa Alpha Theta. After disc...
