Today was my last day of seeing all the activities that go on in Greek Neighborhood. I wanted to focus on the pond that sits across from Greek Neighborhood; so beautiful, elegant, and still. A place that all students use to escape from the chaos of their lives. Geese swimming and squirrels getting abnormally close to you as you sit on the benches that are perfectly placed around it. The fountains in the middle spitting out sprinkles of water repeatedly. Mimicking the sounds of rain drops.
Theta Pond is named after the sorority Kappa Alpha Theta. There is no specific reason it was named after this sorority, but they have made it apart of their legacy. It has seen just as many happy memories as the houses that sit on Greek Row. Everything from Bid Day events, to Big-Little, to getting pinned as a new member of Kappa Alpha Theta. After discovering all the ins and outs of these houses there was one thing that stood out to me. The amount of people that are involved in the memories that take place within these walls or waters.
Generations of young men and women that chose to spend their time in a sisterhood or a brotherhood. A bond that is supposed to keep you connected to these people your entire life. People that you call your family instead of your friends. These young adults learn to grow, mature, and discover who they want to be. They chose to carry on a tradition of hundreds of years in a house that has stood longer than they have been alive.
I sat there at Theta Pond listening to the sounds of the wind blow through the trees that shaded me. Thinking of all the wonderful things that have happened in this place that I am sitting at this very moment. Displaying the beauty of this neighborhood and the people that live within it. It is what makes Oklahoma State so special and what drew me here from the very beginning.
